Events

The fifth European Association Conference took place on 21st and 22nd May 2012 in Strasbourg. Organised by the Maison de l'Europe of Strasbourg with several partners, including the Regional Council of Alsace, the Council of the Associations of Europe and the European Parliament, it focused this year on the theme: "Démocratie participative-démocratie de proximité: dialoguer en Europe". The Foundation's Director General, Pascale Joannin took part. On 22nd May Pascale Joannin spoke at the fourth round table entitled "From the Eurozone to the United States of Europe?"

The Franco-German Institute of Ludwigsburg, together with the Goethe Insitute organised on 3rd May 2012 in Paris a presentation of the book "Deutsch-Französische Beziehungen als Modellbaukasten?", written under the management of Stefan Seidendorf. The General Director of the Robert Schuman Foundation, Pascale Joannin, took part in the event alongside Frank Baasner (DFI) and Joachim Umlauf (Goethe-Institut).

On 19th April 2012, the Robert Schuman Foundation organized in Paris a discussion on the subject "Is the European way still the best hope in these uncertain times?" with the American author Steven Hill.

From 11th to 14th April 2012 the Robert Schuman Foundation hosted in Paris a delegation of parties from Central and Eastern Europe who are members of the EPP group. During this study visit several political meetings were organised was well as a seminar at the Foundations HQ.

The European Association of Sciences Po Lille, Visions d'Europe organised on 6th April 2012, together with the Robert Schuman Foundation, the fifth Newrope competition in Lille. This competition aims to promote the idea of Europe and to give Europe life in the areas of culture and education. This year five projects designed to make Europe more real put forward by five university delegations, were running. The jury was chaired by Ms Anne Dorte Riggelsen, Ambassador for Denmark in France. A conference debate on "the return of national feeling in Europe" took place during the morning in which Magali Balent, researcher and project manager at the Robert Schuman Foundation took part.

On 2nd April 2012 the "Schuman Report on Europe, the State of the Union 2012" was presented at the CERI on the occasion of a debate on "The European Union and the Crisis: What responses should we give? What is the outlook?" The debate was moderated by two of the work's co-directors, Thierry Chopin, Studies Director at the Robert Schuman Foundation and Michel Foucher, geographer and professor at the ULM. Christian Lequesne, director of the CERI-Sciences Po, introduced the debate.

On 29th March 2012 the "Schuman Report on Europe, the State of the Union 2012" was presented at the Maison de l'Europe des Yvelines by Pierre Lequiller, chair of the European Affairs Committee at the National Assembly, chair of the Maison de l'Europe des Yvelines and Constance le Grip, MEP.

On 28th March 2013 the Konstantinos Karamanlis Institute for Democracy organised a seminar in Athens on the Founding Fathers of Europe in which Jacques Rigaud, honorary State Counsellor and Deputy Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation, took part. His speech focused on "18 years old in 1950: the European destiny of a generation."

On 27th 2012 the Schuman Report 2012 was introduced in its French and English versions in presence of Joseph Daul, President of the European People's Party in the European Parliament in Brussels.

On 15th 2012 the Schuman Report on Europe, the State of the Union 2012 (in French version) produced under the management of Thierry Chopin and Michel Foucher was presented to the European Commission Representation in France with many personalities in attendance, including former European Central Bank President, Jean-Claude Trichet, Joachim Bitterlich, Executive Vice-Chairman for International Affairs at Veolia Environment and member of the Foundation's Scientific Committee, as well as Jacques Barrot, former Minister, former European Commissioner, member of the Constitutional Council and member of the Foundation's board.
