What future for the European Union?

On 10th March 2012 the Institute for International and Strategic Relations (IRIS) organised the 4th European Interviews together with the Robert Schuman Foundation in Enghien-les-Bains. The event was devoted to the urgent need to "Rethink Europe". There were three round tables on the future of the Euro, the Defence of Europe, France's European Policy after the presidential election. Various people from the political, academic and economic world spoke during the day. Robert Schuman Foundation Chairman, Jean-Dominique Giuliani has been presenting the "Schuman Report on the State of the Union 2012."
The 4th "Etats Généraux" of Europe

On 10th March 2012 the Robert Schuman Foundation took part in the 4th "Etats Généraux" of Europe when European decision makers and members of civil society met to exchange views on major European issues. As part of this event that took place at Sciences Po Paris Thierry Chopin, Studies Director, spoke on Citizens' Europe and Magali Balent, project director, moderated a workshop on the migratory flows and identity withdrawal in Europe.
European answers to the crisis

The Robert Schuman Foundation was a partner in a seminar on "European answers to the crisis" organised on 6th March 2012 by the European Commission's representation in France. European Commissioners Olli Rehn and Michel Barnier, French European Minister Jean Leonetti, and the chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation Jean-Dominique Giuliani spoke about the crisis.

The French European Affairs Minister, Jean Leonetti was in Moselle on 8th and 9th February 2012 for the first Franco-German meetings of Malbrouck. University academics, top-ranking civil servants, and representatives of the private sector exchanged views with regard to the Franco-German partnership within the European Union and on the main political and economic developments ongoing in Germany. On 9th February Mr Leonetti went to Scy-Chazelles for the unveiling of an "Illustrious House" plaque at Robert Schuman's house where the latter lived for over thirty years.
Gender Equality

On 27th January 2012 in Paris the Jean Monnet Association organised a seminar entitled "Gender Equality: a kind of equality?" Review, success stories and outlook post 2013". Pauline Massis-Desmarest, editor in chief of the Letter and Internet Communications Manager, presented the project "Women for Europe, Citizens' Initiative" launched by the Robert Schuman Foundation together with the Commission's DG Education and Culture, the Karamanlis Institute and the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation.
The rise of populism in Europe

From 26th to 27th January 2012 the University of Paris III- Sorbonne Nouvelle organised in Paris a seminar on "the rise of populism in Europe". Magali Balent and Thierry Chopin, both lecturers at Sciences Po and respectively Projects Manager and Studies Director for the Robert Schuman Foundation took part in the debate.
Smart Power in Europe

On 24th January 2012 the Robert Schuman Foundation and the INHES (Institute for Higher Security and Justice Studies) organised a seminar entitled "The smart power in Europe?" at the Ecole Militaire in Paris. Leading personalities from the academic, political and diplomatic world took part in the debate.
Second Anniversary of the Entry into Force of the Lisbon Treaty

On 19th December 2011 the Chairman of the Foundation, Jean-Dominique Giuliani took part in a debate at the Bulgarian National Assembly on the occasion of the second anniversary of the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty. Jean-Dominique Giuliani's speech started with an analysis of the financial crisis, he then revealed his ideas, notably the solutions that he suggested were necessary. On 19th December, the Assembly launched an information and communication campaign devoted to the most urgent European issues.
Europe and Diversity

On 16th December 2011, the Robert Schuman Institute for Europe in partnership with the Robert Schuman Foundation organised an international conference on the theme "Europe and Diversity" at the Centre de la Conférence des Evêques de France. The Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation spoke at a round table on the theme of "Education-Politics-Communication".
7th Franco-German Forum on the Future of Europe

Joachim Bitterlich and Jean-Dominique Giuliani organised the 7th Franco-German meeting on 15th December 2011 on the future of Europe with the Club Rhénan in Paris. This meeting focused on the means for the European Union to overcome the crisis and on the foundations of a common, Franco-German defence policy together with Defence Minister Gérard Longuet.
