Results of the Hungarian Presidency

On 5th July 2011 the Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation, Jean-Dominique Giuliani, took part in the 3rd European Summer University organised by the European Studies Centre of the University of Szeged (Hungary) which was taking place from 4th to 9th July at the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Paris. He spoke on "The Results of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and major European Issues."
Memory in the European Project

The Robert Schuman Foundation took part in a seminar on "Memory in the European Project" organised by the Institut Mémoires (Edition Contemporaine -IMEC) and the association CELSIUS on 2nd July 2011 at the Abbey of the Ardennes (France). Magali Balent, project manager and researcher at the Robert Schuman Foundation spoke on "Is memory playing against Europe? Europe in the minds eye of national-populism." This seminar looked into the role played by the memory in building the European project and into the creation of a common historic awareness that can rise above power struggles and rivalry. It also looked into resistance to and the threats weighing against the bid to build collective memory in Europe.
Immigration, borders, asylum: which European policies?

The Robert Schuman Foundation and the Permanent Representation for France at the EU was organising a debate in Brussels on 27th June 2011 on the theme of "Immigration, borders, asylum: which European policies?" between Jacques Barrot, former Vice-President of the European Commission for Transport, then Justice, Freedom and Security and Carlos Coelho, MEP (EPP/PT). On the invitation of Ambassador Philippe Etienne, the debate was introduced by Jean-Dominique Giuliani, Chairman of the Foundation. On this theme the Foundation has just published a European Interview with Jacques Barrot.
The future of the European Budget

On 22nd June 2011 in Brussels the Robert Schuman Foundation and Edelman - the Centre are organising a conference on the future of the European budget after the crisis. On this occasion the Schuman Report on the State of the Union 2011, published in French by Lignes de repères, and in English by Springer, was presented.
Freedom of the Press

On the 30th and 31st May 2011 in association with the Robert Schuman Foundation and the European Council, the International Francophone Organisation organised a regional conference in Sofia (Bulgaria) on the freedom of the press and the regulation of the media in Central and Eastern Europe. Gérard Saint Paul, journalist and member of the Robert Schuman Foundation's scientific council spoke at the inauguration session, giving a presentation of the freedom of the press in Western European countries and the challenges experienced by the press in Western Europe.
Presentation of the Schuman Report 2011 at the CERI

On 23rd May 2011 the CERI and the Robert Schuman Foundation organised a conference-debate in Paris on "L'Europe face aux crises" during which Thierry Chopin, Studies Director of the Robert Schuman Foundation and Michel Foucher University Professor at the ENS (Ulm) and member of the Foundation's Scientific Committee, were presenting the "Schuman Report on Europe - State of the Union 2011". The debate was moderated by Christian Lequesne, Director of the CERI.

On 13th May 2011 the Old Dominion University of Norfolk (United States) organised a conference entitled in which the Chairman of the Foundation Jean-Dominique Giuliani took part. He spoke at a round table "European Integration and Economic Governance."
European Public Opinion and Enlargement

A series of conferences is being organised on 28th and 29th April 2011 in Paris and in its suburbs on the theme of the EU's enlargement as part of the project "We are Europeans" initiated by the Robert Schuman Foundation in Warsaw and in partnership with the Robert Schuman Foundation in Paris, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the Jean Monnet Association of Paris. The Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation Jean-Dominique Giuliani took part in one of the conferences organised on 29th April on the theme of "European Public Opinion and Enlargement."
