The Foundation in Albania
Europe/Others - 31/05/2007
Jean-Dominique Giuliani, president of the Robert Schuman Foundation and Xavier de Villepin, former senator and member of the Foundation's Board of directors went to Albania on May 31 and June 1 to inaugurate the first Robert Schuman square in the centre of the historical town of Berat (120km south of Tirana). On this occasion they pleaded for the values of peace, cooperation and reconciliation between States. They met a number of prominent personalities among which the Prime Minister Sali Berisha and the Parliament's Vice-president Fatos Beja to discuss Albania's situation and the Kosovo issue.
European Identity /identities?

May 25-26: Jean-Dominique Giuliani is taking part in a debate organised in Riga (Latvia) on the occasion of the "Printemps français" (French cultural festival). This conference entitled "Franco-Latvian crossed looks on Europe - representations of European identities and the challenge of enlargement" brings together French and Latvian officials and specialists on the subject.

Schuman Parade in Warsaw

The 14th Schuman Parade took place on 12th May in partnership with the Foundation with Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski Margot Wallström, Commission Vice-President and Danuta Hübner, European Commissioner in attendance.

Scy Chazelles named European Heritage site

At the behest of the European Commission, the "European Patrimony" label was bestowed upon the house of Robert Schuman in Scy-Chazelles (57). The goal of the label is to emphasize the European dimension of cultural goods, monuments, both urban and natural sites and memorial sites which bear witness to European history and heritage. In France, Cluny Abbey (71) is, since the 19th of March, the fist site to benefit from this label along with the Cour du Palais des Papes in Avignon (84).

Debate on Europe at the Book fair in Paris

The Robert Schuman Foundation was a partner of the debate organised by the Office of the European Parliament in Paris around Jacques Barrot, Vice-president of the European Commission in charge of transport and his book "L'Europe n'est pas ce que vous croyez" - Albin Michel Editions in a collection directed by the Robert Schuman Foundation. The debate gathered Jean-Marie Beaupuy, Harlem Désir, Jean-Paul Gauzès and Jean-Dominique Giuliani.
