Franco-German Economy Day

On 23rd May 2013 the Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation, Jean-Dominique Giuliani took part in the Franco-German Economy Day alongside Louis Gallois, Thierry Repentin, Ernst Burgbacher and Susanne Wasum-Rainer. The meeting was organised by the Franco-German Chamber of Trade and Industry. This day was split into three main discussions entitled "France-Germany: the split?" "Banking Regulation and Financing the Economy" and "France-Germany: two models of industrial competitiveness."
15th Franco-German Dialogue
European Union - 15/05/2013
The Franco-German Institute of Ludwigsburg together with the Asko Europa Foundation organised the 10th annual seminar for Franco-German Dialogue on 16th and 17th May 2013. Entitled "Federal Europe? Solidarity, Subsidiarity, Democracy" there were speeches by Thierry Chopin, Studies Director for the Robert Schuman Foundation and Magali Balent, Project Director for the Robert Schuman Foundation.
Should we be proud of being European ?

Europe House in Paris organized a conference "Should we be proud of being European?" on 14th May 2013. Pascale Joannin, General Manager of the Robert Schuman Foundation and Joachim Bitterlich, former advisor to Helmut Kohl and member of the Robert Schuman Foundation's Scientific Committee took part in the panel of speakers. Speeches were followed by a debate and a vote on the recommendations to improve education about Europe.
Future Success

On 3rd May 2013 the Chamber of Trade and Industry of Meurthe and Moselle organised the first economic forum "Economic Ideas Forum" in Nancy with two prestigious guests in attendance: Philippe Maystadt, former EIB president and former Belgian Prime Minister, together with Gerhard Schröder, former German Chancellor. Six workshops on the theme of "Future Success" covered the day's events. Pascale Joannin, the Robert Schuman Foundation's General Manager moderated the workshop "Truth, transparency and governance".
The future of Europe

The "Club des Tendances Fondamentales" in collaboration with the Robert Schuman Foundation organized a debate titled "Visions on the Future of Europe" on 24th April 2013 in Paris. Jean-Dominique Giuliani, with Karel De Gucht, European Commissioner for Trade, Sir Peter Ricketts, British Ambassador to France, and Joachim Bitterlich, former diplomatic and security advisor to Chancellor Helmut Kohl, participated to the debate chaired by Admiral Lanxade, former Army Chief of Staff.
8th Meeting of the "Rhénan Club"

On 23rd April 2013 in Berlin the Robert Schuman Foundation and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organised the 8th meeting of the Rhénan Club (Franco-German forum) on the future of Europe, . This meeting focused on Franco-German cooperation and its developments for the future in order to create "true economic and monetary union."
The consequences of the debt crisis on Europe and the euro

As part of a series of conferences on "The crisis and the EU candidate countries" organized by the French Institute in Skopje with the support of the Robert Schuman Foundation, a debate "Consequences of the debt crisis on Europe and the euro," took place on 18th April in Skopje (Republic of Macedonia). Alain Fabre, an expert working for the Foundation, economist and business financial advisor, spoke at this debate.
Which democratic renewal before the 2014 European elections ?

On 11th April 2013, the Young Europeans of Paris were presenting a conference entitled "Which democratic renewal before the 2014 European elections?". During this conference, which took place at the Centre Panthéon, Jacques Barrot, member of French Constitutional Council and of the Robert Schuman Foundation's Board of directors, but also Vice-president of the European Commission between 2004 and 2009 but also Jean-Vincent Holeindre, Lecturer in Political Sciences at Panthéon-Assas University discussed this topic.
What political union for Europe?

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty, and at a time when, with the Cypriot crisis the euro zone crisis is back at the centre of the news, the Master's Programme on European Affairs association at Sciences Po organised a conference on 3rd April 2013 in Paris on the topic: "Is political union a priority for Europe? Differences in concepts and visions between France, Germany and its European partners" Jean-Dominique Giuliani, President of the Robert Schuman Foundation, was on the debating panel, alongside Christian Lequesne, director of the CERI-Sciences Po, Christopher Bickerton, professor at Sciences Po and Marion Gaillard, lecturer at Sciences Po.
