On 27th February, the Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation Jean-Dominique Giuliani met the Vice Prime Minister of Macedonia, Ivica Bocevski.

On the initiative of Jean-Dominique Giuliani, Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation and Jérôme Bédier, Chairman of the Europe Committee at the Medef, the Foundation organized on 10th February an evening debate in partnership with the Medef entitled "French Influence in Brussels : what is true and false."

The Robert Schuman Foundation together with the GERB organised a conference entitled "Europe and Energy: new state of play and challenges for Bulgaria?" on 15th January in Sofia, Bulgaria. Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Chairman of the GERB introduced the conference followed by Pascale Joannin, Director General of the Foundation. Jean-Dominique Giuliani, Chairman of the Foundation spook on the theme of "For a true European Energy Policy."

The Robert Schuman Foundation and the Center for Transatlantic Relations (Johns Hopkins University) organised a Franco-American conference in Paris on 5th December entitled: "2009: what challenges for the Franco-American relationship?"; notably Jean François-Poncet, former Foreign Minister and Jean-David Levitte, Ambassador and Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Republic will be in attendance. Ten French and American experts debated five themes: strategic challenges, the Mediterranean, Africa, the world economy and Russia.

On 27th and 28th November the French Institute for International Relations and the Franco-Austrian Centre for Europe organised a conference under the high patronage of French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Austrian President Heinz Fischer entitled "L'Union européenne en devenir: nouveaux défis - nouvelles réponses" ("The developing European Union: new challenges new responses" ). Pascale Joannin, Director General of the Foundation spook on 28th November on "Les Valeurs de l'Europe: quelles spécificités, quels futurs?" ("Europe's Values: what are the characteristics - what is the future?".

On the occasion of its 60th anniversary the Franco-German institute of Ludwigsburg is organising on 27th and 28th November together with the Robert Bosch Foundation a conference entitled "Franco-German co-operation in Europe in the 21st century" in which Jean-Dominique Giuliani, Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation took part.

The Centre for the USA and Europe at the Brookings Institution in Washington together with the French Presidency of the EU organised a series of meetings with French personalities to review the French Presidency, analyse its impact on Europe and the way the Irish NO, the Russo-Georgian War and the financial crisis have been dealt with. Jean-Dominique Giuliani spoke on 20th November on Nicolas Sarkozy's influence on developments in the priorities that he initially established and on the possible changes to the EU after this presidency.

The House of Europe of the Yvelines and the townhall of Saint-Germain-en-Laye is organising a seminiar on 15th November "A Europe for its citizens - What does the future hold for Europe in the 21st century?" together with the Minister for Higher Education and Research, Valérie Pécresse. Jean-Dominique Giuliani, Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation will take part in the seminar notably with Pierre Lequiller, MP for the Yvelines and Chair of the Commission for European Affairs at the National Assembly and Chair of the House of Europe of the Yvelines; Catherine Lalumière, Chair of the House of Europe, Paris will also be in attendance.

The Robert Schuman Foundation together with the SDA and the CEIS, co-organised on 3rd and 4th November in Brussels the "Security&Defence Days 2008". This high level conference rallying players from the civilian and military environment to debate and exchange ideas on the future of the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) took place in presence of Michèle Alliot-Marie, French Interior Minister and Jacques Barrot, Vice-President of the European Commission for Space, Justice, Freedom and Security.

On 27th and 31st October a conference was held in Tirana with the Albanian ambassadors. Several personalities including Franco Frattini, Italian Foreign Minister and Karel Schwarzenberg, Czech Foreign Minister took part. Jean-Dominique Giuliani, Chairman of the Foundation spoke on 31st October on the theme of "Challenges to and Developments in the EU".
