Franco-American conference in Washington
World - 19/05/2009
The Robert Schuman Foundation and the Center for Transatlantic Relations, Johns Hopkins University organised a conference in Washington on 19th May entitled "France, America and the World: a New Era in France-American Relations?" together with Jean François-Poncet, former French Foreign Minister, Member of the Foundation's Administrative Board. Five themes were addressed: strategic challenges; economy; the Middle East and the Mediterranean, Russia and finally Africa. This conference was enable the conclusion of work by the Franco-American group that was established by the two organisers in the summer of 2008. An initial conference was organised in Paris on 5th December 2008.
Conference on Security in Europe, Varna

Former Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nadezhda Mihailova organised a conference on 15th and 16th May with the support of the Robert Schuman Foundation and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation entitled "A European approach to the new challenges to security in the modern world: combating violent extremism, organised crime and corruption." Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, former President of the French Republic and former President of the European Convention was attending.
Conference "The European Institutions at a Crossroads", Bucharest

The European Institute of Romania and the Embassy of France in Romania are organising a conference in Bucharest on 13th May on the theme of "The European Institutions at a Crossroads," with the Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation, Jean-Dominique Giuliani in attendance. This event is the fourteenth conference since 2007 in the series 'Romania-France - Together in Europe"; the aim is to provide a Franco-Romanian perspective on Romania's integration of Europe.
Inauguration of the museum of Robert Schuman in Scy-Chazelles

From 9th to 17th May the Robert Schuman house in Scy-Chazelles celebrated Europe Week. The highlight of this week was the inauguration of the museum which is attached to the house in the presence of Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and the Foundation which helped to make this event happen. The Chairman of the Foundation Jean-Dominique Giuliani took part to the inauguration and delivered a speech in memory of Robert Schuman.
Conference in Riga (Latvia) on European Political Identity

On 7th May the Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation, Jean-Dominique Giuliani travelled to Riga to take part in a conference entitled "Belonging to Europe - History, Culture and Political Identity" notably together with former Latvian president Vaira Vike-Freiberga. Michel Foucher, member of the Foundation's Scientific Committee took also part.
Conference in Loudun on "France, Europe and the Crisis"

Presentation of the Schuman Report 2009 at the European Parliament

The Robert Schuman Foundation and the Centre d'Etudes Européennes organised a presentation of its work at the European Parliament in Brussels on 27th April "The State of the Union, Schuman Report 2009 on Europe" together with Mr Joseph Daul, Chairman of the EPP-ED group at the European Parliament. This work contains 19 articles by the best European experts, 31 unique colour maps, 68 detailed tables and graphs as well as an exclusive interview with Mr Schäuble, Home Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is published by Lignes de Repères.
Foreign Policy and Defence in the EU

Jean-Dominique Giuliani is the guest speaker at the annual Jean Monnet Memorial Lecture of the Institute for European Studies at the European Business School in London. He gave a speech on: "Defence and Diplomacy: What Next for Europe?".
Presentation of the Schuman Report 2009 at the Centre for the Foreign Press (Paris)

On 15th April the Robert Schuman Foundation organised the presentation of its work "The State of the Union, Schuman Report 2009 on Europe" at the Centre for the Foreign Press together with Bruno Le Maire, Secretary of State for European Affairs and many authors.
Franco-German Forum meeting of the Club Rhénan in Berlin

Jean-Dominique Giuliani, Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation and Joachim Bitterlich, Vice-President of Notre Europe, together with the Konrad Adenauer and Robert Schuman Foundations are organising the fourth meeting of the Club Rhénan on 18th March in Berlin. This is a meeting, by invitation only, of German and French personalities from all walks of society (political, business, research, media, cultural) to enhance cooperation between the two countries. The event will be dedicated to the economic and financial crisis and trans-Atlantic relations.
