French-German Relations
France - 29/10/2009
The College of Bernardine, in partnership with the Robert Schuman Foundation, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Confrontations Europe, organises on 30 and 31 October the colloquium, "The French-German Relationship from 1945 to today." Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the colloquium will address questions concerning Europe's identity and future, while emphasizing the relationship between the two founding countries. Jean-Dominique Giuliani, president of the Robert Schuman Foundation, will also participate. The conference will conclude with a debate presided by René Girard of the French Academy.

The president of the Robert Schuman Foundation, Jean-Dominique Giuliani, is invited by the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia to participate on the 26th and 27th October in the conference, "The social market economy in Europe- a model society for globalisation?" This conference will mark the end of the 2008/2009 France North Rhine-Westphalia season.
Conference - European Defence Policy

On Thursday, 24th September 2009 the Robert Schuman Foundation (Paris), the Constantinos Karamanlis Institute for Democracy (Athens) and the Centre for European Studies (Brussels) are organising a conference in Paris (Ecole Militaire) entitled "Vital progress for the European Defence Policy", under the High Patronage of Mr Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the French Republic. Three round-tables will be organised: "The Future of the ESDP and EU peacekeeping missions", "NATO-ESDP relations" and "Common European Arms Market". Mr Hervé Morin, Minister of Defence, will introduce the conference, which Mr Pierre Lellouche, Minister of State in charge of European Affairs will also attend.

The Robert Schuman Foundation joined forces with the project Young Euro Connect 2009 entitled "Europe beyond Brussels - the Stories behind the Law". Whilst Europe is often seen as a legislative instrument we might wonder about the influence it has in each of the Member countries of the Union. Young European journalists are putting forward a series of reports that will be told by well known actors. This presentation will take place on 21st September at 7pm in Paris.
Paris - Conference on the Baltic Way

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Baltic Way the Embassies of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania organised a conference on 8th September under the patronage of Gérard Larcher, President of the Senate and in partnership with the Senate's France-Baltic Countries Friendship Group. The Foundation was represented by its chairman Jean-Dominique Giuliani, Sandra Kalniete, one of the main organisers of this movement for freedom on the part of the three Baltic States, member of the Administrative Board, as well as Michel Foucher, member of the Scientific Committee...
Debatte on the decision of the German Constitutionnal Court on the Lisbon Treaty

The Robert Schuman Foundation and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organised in Paris, on 7th September, a debatte on "The consequences of the decision of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany on the European unification process" with two jurists, Ruport Scholz, former German Minister for Defence, and Anne Levade, Professor of constitutionnal and European law at the Université Paris Est and Director of the Centre de recherches communautaires (CERCO-CDE). A bilingual publication (French-German) provides a long version of the analysis of both experts and an extract of the decision of the German Constitutionnal Court.
Debate with José-Manuel Barroso - 7th September 2009

Ireland - Symposium European Citizenship

One month before the 2nd referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, the Robert Schuman Foundation will attend the symposium organised in Cork by University College and Alliance française on 1st September about the European Citizenship. During this symposium, hold under the High Patronage of Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament, Micheal Martin, Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs, will adress a keynote speech.
Conference on Montenegro

The Robert Schuman Foundation together with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CEDEM) organised a conference on 26th June in Montenegro entitled "Montenegrin Path Towards the EU - Constraints and Challenges" in which Foundation Chairman Jean-Dominique Giuliani took part.
Conference on Ukraine in Kiev

The Robert Schuman Foundation took part in a round-table jointly organised by the cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Embassy of France in Ukraine on "The integration of Ukraine in the European Union: new opportunities and challenges" together with Hubert Haenel, Chair of the European Affairs Committee at the Senate.
