The EPP Group Study Days took place on 7th/8th December in Marseilles on the theme of "Defending our citizens, our economies and our values. The answer is more Europe". The Chairman of the Robert Schuman Foundation, Jean-Dominique Giuliani spoke on 7th December at a round table "Arab Spring by enforcing Confidence: Towards a Better Management of Migration Flows and Integration Policies".

The President stressed the economic benefits of immigration. Europe, which faces very low growth and birth rates, cannot afford to miss this "reservoir of labor."

He recalled that for years, the population growth in the European Union has been due exclusively to immigration. Jean-Dominique Giuliani called on parliamentarians address the on issue of emergency situations, such as a considerable influx of refugees from instable areas in the world. According to the President of the Robert Schuman Foundation, the European Union must strengthen its capacity to cope with such situations and to find solutions based on solidarity between member states.

Jean Dominique Giuliani also called for a special mobility policy toward young people of Arab countries, allowing them to further study or work in the European Union. Considering the results of the recent elections in Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco, Jean Dominique Giuliani urged that Europe must show patience and indulgence. Islam as a religion is fallaciously perceived as a threat in Europe, though the danger is not the religion itself, but rather its manipulation for political ends. However, in the case of infringement of the rights of women, the European Parliament will respond firmly.
