Second edition of the Think Tank Forum

The second Think Tank Forum took place on 19th November 2011 at the Sorbonne (Paris). Bringing together 23 think tanks the event hopes to contribute to the major political stakes just five months before the presidential election. Pascale Joannin, Director General of the Robert Schuman Foundation, spoke at a round table devoted to the vital need to rise beyond the national framework.
On 19th November at the Malesherbes University Centre, La Sorbonne, Paris the Robert Schuman Foundation took part in the second Think-Tank Forum. This day of debate brought together 23 think-tanks. Participants pooled their ideas with regard to various topical subjects, notably the public debt, economic governance, digital, education ... debate took place at six round tables that were lively and constructive, just five months before the Presidential election in France.
The Robert Schuman Foundation's General Director, Pascale Joannin took part in the second round table entitled "Rising above the national framework?" With her were Jean-Christoph de Bar, director of the "Foundation for World Agriculture and Rurality" (FARM) and Jean-Louis Guigou, general delegate of the Euro-Mediterranean think-tank, "Institut de Prospective economique du monde méditerranéen" (IpeMed). Journalist Gaïdz Minassian of the Monde.fr moderated the debate.
Pascale Joannin explained that the national framework was no longer adequate and that it was necessary to rise beyond this. In an increasingly multi-polar world only a united Europe will be able to rise to the challenges set by the new emerging powers she said. In Pascale Joannin's opinion the idea of European federalism has become topical once more. She also stressed that the new, more federal Europe should also be more democratic.
