On 18th September the PME Union organised an international conference together with the Robert Schuman Foundation, EADS Astrium and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation - it was entitled "Space : A new Business Opportunity for European SMEs ?". It took place under the high patronage of Joseph Daul, chairman of the EPP-ED group. Exchanges of opinion between industrialists and representatives of the European institutions lead to the conclusion that the space market was both of economic and strategic importance to the EU. It remains that there is a promising market with numerous innovations in which small and medium sized companies have a major role to play.
