Conference: "The Presidencies of the European Union in 2008"

The Robert Schuman Foundation, together with the Embassy of France in Poland and the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation organised a seminar focussing on "The Presidencies of the European Union in 2008" in Warsaw on 16th January. Pascale Joannin, Director General took part in this meeting along with François Barry-Delongchamps, Ambassador of France in Poland, Jozef Drofenik, Ambassador of Slovenia in Poland, Jan Borkowski, Secretary to the Polish Foreign Affairs Ministry and Anna Radwan-Röhrenschef, Chair of the Polish Foundation.
The Robert Schuman Foundation together with the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation and the Embassy of France in Poland organised a conference on the Slovenian and French presidencies of the European Union in 2008. The event took place on 16th January at the Embassy of France in Warsaw with 200 people in attendance.
The debated was hosted by former Monde correspondent Mr Bernard Marguerite. Other speakers included Mr François Barry Delongchamps, Ambassador for France in Poland, Mr Jozef Drofenik, Ambassador for Slovenia in Poland, Mr Jan Borkowski, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ms Pascale Joannin, Director of the Robert Schuman Foundation and Ms Anna Radwan-Röhrenschef, President of the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation.
All of the speakers stressed the importance of 2008 for the future of the European Union. The ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, globalisation, the EU's role in the international arena, the emergence of new common policies (immigration, defence ...), and the institutional reform of the Union were all highlighted as the main issues at stake during the Slovenian and French presidencies.
